The Snakes and His Ascendants
In Chinese horoscopes, a person born during different periods of the day will have an effect on his/her overall personality in various degrees.

For every individual, their personality has a centered “self” and many layers around it. Each layer has a different size, texture and aura, and when combined, it makes up who the person truly is.

Each period of time during the day corresponds to a different Chinese horoscope. So, although it is a person’s individual choice on which path he will take in life, there may perhaps be other “inner voices” which will influence him. These “inner voices”, “other self” or “inner struggle” comes from their conflicting ascendants.

E.g. A Rooster born in the hours of the Ox. In this case, the individual may experience both animal traits to different degrees, hence the conflict.

Your local time should be used when determining your ascendant.

11PM - 1AM: The Rat Hours
You are a snake who knows how to harness the influence of powerful friends who can help you rise to power. You have a formidable network of friends and a storehouse of information. Although you are sentimental and possessive about almost anything, you are generous to your family because you love them.

1AM - 3AM: The Ox Hours
The Ox influence is good for you to learn to be more duty bound and responsible where there is no gain, be more patient, less selfish and less superior to others. However, with your elusiveness, you could be more difficult to deal with if you have the Ox’s will power and stamina.

Compatibility and Conflict
The conflict and compatibility chart helps indicate complimentary or conflicting horoscope signs. There are often 2 other complimentary signs for each horoscope and one conflicting sign for every individual sign. The way to determine this is to place each of the 12 signs in a circle and the sign that is opposite of each other are conflicting, while the signs that form a triangle within that circle are the complimentary signs. Aside from these 3 signs, the rest of the signs are compatible but in varying degrees.

The Snake is part of the Second Triangle of Affinity comprising the Snake, Ox and Rooster. These three are the most intellectual signs of the cycle and are most likely to listen to their head rather than their heart. They depend more on their own assessment and always take hearsay with a pinch of salt. They are independent by nature and strive to achieve great heights. These three signs tend to seek out each other for marriage and friendship.

People born in the year of the boar or has boar as their ascendant has the most serious conflict with the Snake. The fire element in the snake and the water element in boar do not mix well together. Their thinking and outlook are totally different.

They can form relationships only through intermediary or if they share the same ascendant. Eg like the boar born in the snake hour and vice versa.

Apart from the Rooster, Ox and Boar, the other lunar signs are compatible with the snakes in different degrees.

Rat
The Rat and Snake are attracted to each other and relationship between them can be fulfilling if they recognize the usefulness of each other. They are both attracted to power and recognition. The Rat likes the Snakes’ wisdom and the Snake likes the Rat’s resourcefulness and intelligence. Both like to take risks but one of them needs to exercise caution and draw a line when needed.

Tiger
The Snake and Tiger do not relate well to each other as both are competitive and will be unsympathetic if their interest is at stake. The Tiger may be aggressive in getting his way but the Snake will resist to the end. When there is distrust of each other’s motive, conflict will develop. The Snake usually wins because he is able to hide his feelings and the Tiger would be unhappy and show his displeasure.

Rabbit
The Rabbit and the snake have got no great conflict but also nothing much in common. Sharing mutual ascendant will enhance their relationship. Their relationship will be lukewarm unless they find something special that brings them together. Sharing mutual goals such as love for art will make the Snake and Rabbit realize that they need each other’s skill.

Dragon
The Dragon and the Snake will have no problem teaming up to achieve the same goals. The Snake admires the Dragon’s courage and tenacity. The Snake is practical and ruthless in achieving his ambition. Their relationship is formed based on the need for each other’s talents.

Snake
Snake can usually coexist with each other even if they have very different goals as they understand each other perfectly. They can form friendship when they feel unity is important in achieving their mutual ambition. There won’t be clashes unless jealousy and possessiveness comes in the way if they are both after the same object of desire.

Horse
The Horse and the snake are two very different personalities. The Horse is energetic and passionate while the snake is intuitive and keeps his feelings to himself. It is quite likely they will find cooperation with each other a challenge unless the gains far outweigh the loss.

Sheep
The sentimental and demanding Sheep can be frustrating to the highly intellectual Snake. The snake does not like long term commitment or attending to the whims of the sheep. However, the Sheep would do well with the Snakes’ direction and purpose and the Snake would benefit from the sheep’s talents and good nature.

Monkey
The Monkey and the Snake will find it difficult to come together unless they share a common ambition or ascendant. The Monkey does not trust the snake who likes to keep his feelings to himself.
