Introductory
Within the Chinese astrology, the Goat, or the Sheep, is the eighth sign out of 12 animals in the cycle. In comparison with the Western Astrology, the goat is parallel to that of Cancer.

The Goat sign is denoted by a feminine or the yin sign.

It rules 1 month in the season of Summer, 22 July to 21 July, and 2 segments of the day, 1PM to 3PM.

People who are born within that segment of the day are considered to have the Goat sign as their ascendant.

Its direction is the South-Southwest and fixed element is Fire.

The Personality of the Goat
The Goat is very meek and easily gives in to people. They have a very soft personality and is easily overcome by emotion. They are also very understanding and very tolerant of others. They like children and animals and can be very temperamental at times. Goats are very determined and tend to respond passionately when threatened despite their appearances. The Goat is very kind hearted and readily offers his assistance to those who need it, and in turn they too get an abundance of material needs. The Goat knows when to push and pull but when tested they can pack a punch beneath that wooly exterior.

It is very hard to get the Goat to express itself and you will probably have to get them to speak bit by bit on what is bothering them. They are very temperamental and moody but will readily shower affection on their object of affection. Goats are also very much family oriented and will never forget special dates of their loved ones. They will also be equally upset if you forgot about their special dates. Goats tend to be pessimists and they worry a lot but can also be dramatic at the same time. They will also be quite spendthrift will spend like there is no tomorrow. It could also prove advantage for the Goat to have a bossy person around them to govern them who will protect them against people who will take advantage of them.

The Female Goat is very inclined to dainty things and everything else that come with those. They are rarely on time and act like princesses. They are also very keen on personal hygiene and has very good fashion sense. She will be very good at designing and will be very scatter brained but will be able to get the job done. She will also show her affection and favoritism openly towards people she cares about and will like to flirt around and be “open” about it. She is also quite mysterious in a sense that she makes you guess what her responses mean.

Goats are basically romantics and will easily fall for things like candlelight dinners and such. People born under this sign will have the uncanny ability to turn weaknesses into strengths. They are masters of the soft skill and will be able to get the things they want by hinting. As such, they often get what they want easily and easily talk you into giving them what they want. Goats are better followers than leaders due to their kind and soft nature. They will also tend to overindulge their loved ones or family members. On the other side, they can be very difficult to deal with as they are often hypersensitive and will often give in to self-pity as well as emotional ups and downs.
The Goat likes being recognized and appreciated and should work in the creative field where they can excel. They should also be given space to allow them to maneuver freely and they have excellent tastes. Unless the Goat is born during the time of the day where the Dragon, Snake or Tiger rule, they should never govern as they are usually unable to make decisions as they are very passive by nature.

Goats will not need to work hard for a living, as they will get the things they want around them easily. They’re also very peculiar about their surroundings as in being particularly sensitive to ugly things around them. In life, they will also need strong and loyal people to lean and rely on. Horses, Boars and Tigers will complement their personalities well. Rabbits would make a closer match and the Monkey, Dragon, Rooster, Snake or another Goat would do as well.

The Goat will not thrive well with Rats, who dislike their spendthrift ways and the stern Ox and the practical Dog who will not be patient enough to be with them as they will not be able to put up with the Goat’s constant whining and complaints about life.

Five Different Types of the Goats
Metal Goat (1931, 1991) - The Metal Goat will have great confidence in themselves and puts up a brave front but is very vulnerable and soft inside. He will be easily offended and hurt by hurtful remarks. As the Metal element reinforces their artistic abilities, they will prove to be very creative individuals. Metal Goats suffer a lot when they are forced to leave a familiar environment, as it is hard for them to adjust their lives.

They will also tend to seek security in both their domestic and financial life and they will tend to have high paying jobs but they can be quite charitable as well. They will be socially limited to people that could be of benefit or people whom they cherish. Those outside this circle will have to wait for the Metal Goat to warm up to them. Beneath that peaceful exterior, the Metal Goat has unstable emotions that may be hard to be controlled. Because of this they can be possessive, jealous and overprotective of their loved ones. This would be their biggest weakness and they should learn to let loose a little.

Water Goat (1943, 2003) - The Water Goat will be very sociable and will have lots of friends to help them. They are by nature meek and lack knowledge. Although they will follow others they will not easily let others change daily habits and routines. However they will always get help from people around them but will easily feel rejected and persecuted if people do not give in to their demands.

Wood Goat (1955, 2016) - The Wood Goat is a very good-humored Goat that is somewhat indulgent but still considerate. They will tend to be sentimental and they will strive to please. The Wood Goat also tends to mother others and will be very devoted to people he cares about. He will tend to take care of stray animals and also people in need of help. As he likes to help others, he will always have financial help when he needs it.

Fire Goat (1907, 1967) - The Fiery Goat is more sure-footed in general and also more courageous when it comes to following his own intuitions and initiatives. Their forte in general is that they dramatize and play things up rather than invent something new and highlight the positives while playing down the negatives. They enjoy indulgence and will most probably find them overexerting themselves financially. Fire makes this Goat a very fiery person and very outspoken when offended but will be graceful usually when not. However their emotional state of mind can sometimes defy logic. They are most likely to also give in to wishful thinking without considering the current situation and can be quite spiteful and angry when they fail.

Earth Goat (1919, 1979) - This Goat is more self reliant and more optimistic compared to other Goat. They will be independent despite maintaining a strong bond to the family. The Earth element grounds this Goat and would make them be more careful in general, and will be able to spend a bit less but will still indulge when he has the chance. The Earth Goat can work hard and play hard and will go all the way with work or when a friend needs help. This Goat is also more prone to being neurotic and very defensive when criticized.

The Goat and His Ascendants
In Chinese horoscopes, a person born during different periods of the day will have an affect on his/her overall personality in various degrees.

For every individual, their personality has a centered “self” and many layers around it. Each layer has a different size, texture and aura, and when combined, it makes up who the person truly is.

Each period of time during the day corresponds to a different Chinese horoscope. So, although it is a person’s individual choice on which path he will take in life, there may perhaps be other “inner voices” which will influence him. These “inner voices”, “other self” or “inner struggle” comes from their conflicting ascendants.

E.g. A Rooster born in the hours of the Ox. In this case, the individual may experience both animal traits to different degrees, hence the conflict.

Compatibility and Conflict
The conflict and compatibility chart helps indicate complimentary or conflicting horoscope signs. There are often 2 other complimentary signs for each horoscope and one conflicting sign for every individual sign. The way to determine this is to place each of the 12 signs in a circle and the sign that is opposite of each other are conflicting, while the signs that form a triangle within that circle are the complimentary signs. Aside from these 3 signs, the rest of the signs are compatible but in varying degrees.

The Goat is most compatible with the Rabbit and the Boar as all three excel in creativity and all three of them are more diplomatic in general and the calmest of the signs. They are also flexible as they are in always in tune with their environment. They will be drawn to beauty and the deeper aspects of love. All 3 of these signs thrive with each other as they are all pacifists by nature and share the same similarities.

The Goat however conflicts with the Ox, as the Ox tends to be stern, practical and disciplined while the Goat is emotional, possessive and sensitive. The total opposite of what a Goat is the Ox and it is due to this they are not compatible in more ways than one. Other than these 3 signs, the Goat is compatible with other signs to varying degrees.

Rat
The Goat does not have much in common with the Goat. The Goat does not like the frivolous and extravagant ways of the Goat. The Goat is creativity driven which means they need to be with someone of the same wavelength while the Goat tends to focus more on work. Goat born in the hour of the Goat will be able to get along with a Goat and vice versa.

Tiger
There won’t be any confrontations or rivalry between these two signs; the Tiger will be a sympathetic listener to the Goat’s complaints. Long lasting relationships can only be established when they share the same ascendant, friends, or profession. Ties will be cordial and will only be fair-weathered friends otherwise.

Dragon
The Dragon and Goat will be able to get along fine as long as the Goat does not complain too much or demand the spotlight. The Dragon however likes to be the big brother to the Goat and appears to be in control while the Goat may be the on who is holding the reins. The Goat’s creativity will blossom and bloom under the Dragon’s leadership, that is if the Dragon does not scare the Goat away.

Snake
The Snake may find the lovable and compassionate Goat to be frustrating as the Snake is more of an intellectual person. The snake will not give in to the Goat’s demands unless the Goat has something else to offer. The Goat and Snake will be in a symbiotic nature where they will use each other where the Goat could use the Snake’s sense of direction while the Snake could use the Goat’s kind and caring nature.

Horse
The Goat and the Horse have mutual respect for each other and they could use each other as well. The Goat can use the Horses’ direction and confidence. The Horse can choose to ignore the Goat’s complaints and they will get along pretty fine, as the Goat will need to be commanded to get things done. The Goat will do well in business ventures with the Horse.

Goat
Goats will in general not have much rivalry when working with each other. They will have problems coming into decisions but when they share a common interest, they become a team that is hard to beat. They are however easily influenced and are very fickle minded. They will also easily destroy relationships that would take a long time to build and their possessiveness and jealousy will damage the relationship.

Monkey
The Goat and Monkey will not have much in common or understand each other that well unless they share and ascendant. The Monkey needs the Goat’s influence over people while the Goat needs the Monkey’s inventive brain. The Monkey will prefer financial gain while the Goat will require emotional support. The Monkey will be analytical and practical while the Goat will be too emotional and passive. The Goat will blame the Monkey when things go wrong but thankfully the Monkey’s more of a problem solver and will brush that aside.

Rooster
The Rooster will he hard, disciplinarian and direct in his approach while the Goat needs lots of coddling, love and care. This will make Goats naturally repel themselves with Roosters. The Rooster will have communication problems and they will have moderate ties unless they share a common ascendant. They will also have reservations towards each other and will tolerate each other slightly before they decide to part ways. The rooster will be quite quick to show his expertise but then alienates the Goat with too many rules and the Goat will not be able to tolerate the Rooster’s criticism and rigidness and that would only bring out the worse in the Goat’s personality

Dog
The Dog and Goat share a mutual goodwill that enables mutual respect between them to happen. They will tend to work on different speeds and will have different objectives. The Dog won’t care much as long as he fulfills his duty while the Goat will require approval for their actions. The Dog will not tolerate disloyalty and will be quite stern when the Goat fails to make up its mind. The Dog will not understand the Goat’s need to please everyone as well.
